Mother, Mom, Momma, Mama, Mommy, Mum the different names of a woman cherished and held with such high regard in our lives. This woman, whether she is your biological mother, adopted mother, or even grandmother, this woman has strength and dignity that you can count on every day of your life. Some people have other women to fill this place, a stepmother, mother in law, an aunt, and even friends can be as close to a mom as your own, and we cherish them all.

As a mother myself, I feel so blessed to be chosen to watch over my children. God entrusted them to me. I know I have made mistakes, oh so many mistakes, but I’ve gotten a lot of it right with God’s help. I could probably look back at my messes and see that I was trying to do it all on my own instead of asking for God’s guidance. I think we all have done that at some point. I try to remember these boys are only loaned to me for a while and they will someday be a husband and a father.

It brings tears to my eyes when I think of them as grown men. Will they be ok, did I screw it all up, will they still need me, did I do a good job as a mom? These questions fill my mind and I have to remember that God is watching over them, leading them, and guiding them more than me, but I hope I have set an example for them, like my mom and grandmother did for me.

I have often wondered what Mary thought when Jesus was born. What could be going through this young mother’s mind, knowing her son would save the world? The agony she must have felt when He was being crucified and hung on that cross. I can only imagine. I have seen the movies of His sacrifice and my heart breaks thinking what if that was my Son? The strength she had and the comfort in her faith that told her it would be ok. God sustained her, I know He did.

Our mother is a gift to us as much as we are to her. We love her more than we tell her, we want her undivided attention, her approval and the girls want to be like her and the sons want to marry someone like her. This woman is an angel on earth, our biggest fan, and our safe place. She is everything to us.

Don’t ask her for her opinion of your boyfriend or girlfriend, because she will tell you and probably hurt your feelings. She’s honest. She doesn’t sugar coat anything. You know this. But you also know that she will not tell you wrong and always has your best interest at the forefront of her mind. You hurt, she hurts worse. You, child, are your mother’s heart.

God gave us mothers because He knew we needed them. He chose Mary because she was best for Jesus, He chose our moms because He knows what is best for us. Our moms, adopted moms, grandmothers, stepmoms and others that fill that place in our lives were chosen for us, it was all in the plan, the wonderful plan God has for us.

On Mother’s Day, remember your mom, say a prayer for her, give her a hug and tell her you love her. She remembers everything about you, keeps your secrets, holds you in her heart everywhere she goes, she loves you more than anyone else on earth. God bless our mothers, keep them close to You and when she gets to heaven, she’ll rearrange Your stuff.

I love you, Mom, more than you will ever know! I thank God for you every day!

Happy Mother’s Day!
