What do you think of when you hear the word PEACE? Do you think of a nice, quiet place to sit and read a book? How about a time of no war or fighting? When I hear peace, I immediately think of God’s presence and what He can bring to my life if I just let things go and let Him take over. When life gets hard, you don’t get the job you prayed for, your marriage falls apart, your child dies, and even the little things, you lose a job, there’s no money to pay bills or buy groceries, these are things that can be given to our Heavenly Father and in return, He gives us rest and peace.
Philippians 4:6 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”. (NIV) So do we as humans always leave things at His feet and completely trust Him to take care of it? I don’t think so, I think we have the intention to do so, but there’s always something we pick back up.
I know in my own life, I have not had the easiest of journeys. I have cried so much I could fill a pool, maybe a lake, if I really think about it. But I go to God and say, ‘ok, I can’t do this, thought I could, please take this from me.’ God shows up and He certainly shows out. I can feel the weight lift from my shoulders.
God whispers every day to all of us, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, NIV)
Will you lean on Him today? Will you trust Him to give you rest? To give you His peace?
I can’t think of a better time than this minute to say, “Father, I can’t do this anymore alone, please come and help me.” God is all around us, ready to do the heavy stuff for us because we are His beloved, we rapture His heart, and we are His children. If you are a parent, you know you would do anything for your children, He is the same way. There is a song by the Christian rock band, Downhere, called “How Many Kings” that has a great question?
‘Cause how many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts,
To romance a world that is torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only One did that for me.
He did that for you and for me. If you are hurting, struggling, and need to find peace, call out to your Heavenly Father and He will give you the most amazing peace you have ever felt. Lean into Him, He is waiting, He is so patient and so, so good.
I pray you find PEACE!
