Each week, we take the opportunity to highlight a ministry or nonprofit organization that is making a difference in the world. Today’s nonprofit highlight focuses on the Penuel Children’s Foundation.
The Penuel Children’s Foundation rescues children from unsafe environments in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. They work hand in hand with the South African Department of Social Development and welcome children into their family-centered havens.
Port Elizabeth, South Africa there are 171,000 orphans and 80,000 households that are headed by children. It is the largest city in the Eastern Cape of South Africa with a population of 1.2 million people. Almost 40% of these people have HIV and of children born with HIV, most do not live past six years of age due to poverty.
Penuel Children’s Foundation was created in 2013 and the facility opened in 2014 by Richie and Kate Cathcart. After rescuing these children and welcoming them into their home, Richie and Kate work with local authorities find forever homes for these children, and in July saw their 6th child adopted from their family. Many of these children are deemed ‘unadoptable’ by the authorities, but Richie and Kate work tirelessly to ensure that these children are provided with families who will love and cherish them. Please take the time to check out their blog, website, and Facebook page, and pray for them as they continue their ministry in South Africa.
