In my younger days I’d never given much thought to spiritual warfare. To me it was more of an abstract thought and a concept that I accepted for the bigger things in life. For example, when we hear about more tragedies in the news, we can blame the enemy for creating that disaster.  He’s got a presence on this earth in general, but not necessarily in my life or heart. Or so I thought.

Boy did I think wrong! Fast forward a few more years and I entered into a dark time in my life and marriage. Things were going south fast and spinning out of control, and we ended up separated. How could this get so bad? How did we otherwise “good christians” get to this point?

In my quest to gain more understanding, I sought out my most godly and faithful friends, who directed me to the Bible. They reminded me of the concept of spiritual warfare, and suddenly it DONNED on me! Everything made sense! There was a war raging in my life that I wasn’t even aware of. It was time for a change!

Check out this verse: Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

I hadn’t been alert to it, or frankly, even really aware of it. But I couldn’t deny it was absolutely truth. I think of the word “prowl”. To prowl is to “sneak” or to “creep”. This means the enemy is always looking for sneaky ways to enter your life and take hold. And he’s really good at it, he’s got thousands of years of experience! He even disguises himself in our thoughts!

Satan’s strategy is full of LIES. Lies we believe because we are taking credit for them and not realizing they are not of us!

In fact he is “The father of lies” per John 8:44.

So, what kind of LIES are we talking here?

~When you look in the mirror and despise what you see. You say to yourself, “I am fat” or ” I don’t like my nose etc,” you are listening to the voice of the enemy. More and more negative talk like this will break you down, which is exactly what he wants.

.~When your spouse comes home stressed from a long day at work and it carries over into the evening. You think to yourself- “I don’t deserve this.” “Who is he to…”.and resentment festers. Just because the enemy planted a lie in your mind that you can’t give your spouse Grace.

~When you get your college grades back and you didn’t do as well this semester. So the enemy whispers, “See, I told you you can’t handle this!”

~When we dream big! Maybe it’a new career path you want to take or a business you want to start, but the enemy keeps butting in and reminding you of the uphill climb it may take, and the ways you aren’t adequate. So you never take the chance.

~When we fail at kicking an addiction, and he shouts at us, “See! You can’t ever quit. It’s hopeless”.

~When we lose someone close to us, and the enemy points a blaming finger at the Lord. “Some God you are!”

Big or small, every LIE we believe counts. I encourage you to think of what lies you are believing today, and fight them with God’s Sword against the enemy- Gods’ truth.

I’ve included some verses below as weapons to use in your arsenal against the enemy anytime he speaks his lies.

James 4:7- “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Romans 16:20- “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

John 10:10- “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Ephesians 6:11- “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

John 4:4- “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
